Seventeen years after the events that took place at the Theater Center on Dubrovka, Natalya, who had been living in a quiet monastery, returns to Moscow. With the blessing she received, she gathers the former hostages of "Nord-Ost" for a commemorative evening dedicated to the tragedy they experienced from October 23 to 26, 2002. Recreating the details and chronology of the events, Natalya unveils the horrifying details of her own personal history—a fatal mistake that changed her entire life. How can she live with the unbearable burden of unhealed wounds from the past? Will Natalya be able to earn forgiveness from her own family? This question accompanies the story of our film.

The film was shot in Moscow, including at the Theater Center on Dubrovka.

The film premiered at the 77th Venice Film Festival as part of the prestigious Venice Days competition for independent cinema (Le Giornate degli Autori), where it received a Special Mention from the Jury. The film later won the Best Screenplay award at the Kinotavr Film Festival and became the winner of international film festivals in Cottbus, Riga, Cairo, and others. The film was also nominated for the Nika Awards, the White Elephant Award, and the Slovo Award in various categories. In 2020, "Conference" was one of the Russian contenders for the Golden Globe Award in the category of "Best Foreign Language Film."
