PLOT
While the Soviet Union fights almost alone against the Third Reich, the outcome of this project greatly influences which side the civilized world will take. The film tells the incredible story of love and hate between the USA and the USSR, the confrontation of American creative intelligentsia and conservative anti-communists, the history of the rapid and explosive success of the young Soviet film industry, followed by its equally swift downfall. It is a story full of intrigue and ambition, dangers and talent! A story in which great actors and directors, studios and ministries, presidents and leaders play a role! And this story will be called... "Red Hollywood"! The film "Red Hollywood" thoroughly explores the theme of the creation, influence, and operation of the distribution of Soviet films in America during the first half of the 20th century. It depicts the struggle of several bold individuals from Hollywood to freely present ideologically foreign "red" cinema, which culminates in a desperate battle for the first Oscar for the USSR at the beginning of World War II.
FILMING
The film consists of animation executed in an avant-garde suprematist style. It also includes archival footage and interviews with experts.
