USA. California University. Present day. Renowned Russian writer and art historian Evgeny Lazarev presents his book "I Killed a Genius." In his work, the author tells the story of the final days of the great theater director Vsevolod Emilevich Meyerhold, who became a victim of political repression in the USSR in the 1930s-1940s. A pleasant business trip to sunny Miami turns into a real nightmare when Lazarev falls into a trap set by a former compatriot — the grandson of a Stalinist executioner who seeks to restore "historical justice" and finish what his grandfather started. In order to regain his freedom, Lazarev must follow in the footsteps of his idol Meyerhold, enduring intricate tortures and humiliations inflicted by a deranged maniac.
